Other signs?: Evaluation by a doctor is important to determine if there are other signs to indicate the cause. Does a rash or evidence of a bite or discoloration accompany the swelling? Any trauma? Localized burning can be caused by a viral infection (like shingles), but without seeing the area, it is impossible to rule out a bacterial infection or other type of wound or allergic reaction.
