A member asked:

Can a long dormant, asymptomatic kidney stone be precipitated into renal colic and eventual passage by a digital prostate exam?

The first scenario: Is possible but not the latter. Stones usually don't get trapped in the urethra which is at the level of the prostate. So prostate massage won't help. Don't hold ur pee and increase ur h2o intake! best wishes! http://www.Medicinenet.Com/script/main/mobileart.Asp?Articlekey=399 http://health.Howstuffworks.Com/wellness/natural-medicine/alternative/alternative-medicines-for-kidney-stones.Htm.

Complex question: I do not believe that a digital rectal exam can help move a stone out. If you have a dormant kidney stone, it depends on where it is located in the urinary passage. Colics are produced only when the stone is moving down the ureter. Once it has passed down the ureter then there is lesser odds of colic although it can get stuck in the urethra and cause painful urination. Let us know where its locate.
