A member asked:

How can you protect / support a bruised rib when you are unable to take time off to let it heal?

Brace intermittently: A bruised rib could be supported with a brace or other tightfitting garment, but it will be very important to remove the brace about every hour and take several very deep breaths to avoid an increased risk of pneumonia related to more shallow breathing while the brace is in place. Ice packs periodically and Acetaminophen may also be helpful. Ideally rest would be best.

Wear protection: You can try something simple like an ace bandage or athletic tape, or perhaps a neoprene wrap to get extra support while it heals. If you are competing in any sport i would also suggest a flak jacket for added protection.
