A member asked:

How long does it take for a fractured rib take to heal on a 1-2 month old infant? and would there be any physical signs such as bruising on the skin?

Red flag: I must know whether this was an injury sustained during birth, and whether the diagnosis is made by a trusted radiologist. A rib fracture in an infant is deeply concerning for inflicted trauma. I would discuss this with a trusted physician / child health care team. Often we do not truly know even those closest to us. For your sake & junior's, address this.

Healing: An infant, if otherwise healthy should heal a rib fracture within 2-3 weeks. You may see some bruising and swelling or pain with palpation. Most rib fractures are seen as a red flag as child abuse also, more specifically posterior rib fractures.
