Less toxic: Electric cigarettes (ecigs) deliver the same amount of nicotine but less toxins and tars than regular cigarettes. They can be a useful way to wean off cigarettes and stop altogether. There is some controversy over them as they in fact are a drug delivery device without FDA approval and the nicotine content is unregulated. This is an ongoing issue at the moment.

They are NOT good: for anybody, but they may be better if the only alternative is smoking cigarettes. If you are not a tobacco user, there is NO REASON to use an e-cig. Most contain nicotine, which is addictive, and while they don't have the "tars" of cigarettes, they do have propylene glycol, formaldehyde, flavorings, additives etc. that have unknown safety or dangers. Studies about safety are underway.
