Law of thirds!: One third of patients with hyperuricemia are undersecretors, . One trhird are overproducers of uric acid. And one third are both. Overproduction is primarily genetic and associated with many other risk factors for metabolic syndrome and subsequent atherovascular diseases. Under secretion may be genetic, but there are many more modifiable factors at play. Lead poisoning can cause under excretion.
