A 38-year-old member asked:

hello doctors, i need glasses when reading something closely and not need it for seeing regularly. what is this called?

Presbyopia: Basically, the natural lens in your eyes is not as flexible as it used to be. So when you bring something up close, the lens can't flex enough to focus the light to make a clear image. The reading glasses help bring the light back in focus.

Depends: Depends on how big your glasses are, of course. Also, if alcohol addiction has been a problem in the past, i recommend no single drop of it. If you use alcohol for any health reasons such as to help you fall asleep or elevate your mood - stop right where you are. It will make you dependent and addicted. Also, anti-depressants and alcohol is a very dangerous combo. Deaths have been reported.

Evaluation.: If this is relatively new it could be a visual problem or a neurologic issue. If this is a chronic condition it might not be due to vision. I suggest that you start by letting your family doctor know & getting your eyes checked. If vision isn't the issue than a more comprehensive assessment should be done. Take care.

A 39-year-old member asked:

My glasses makes things look smaller but when wearing contacts everything looks normal. So what is the correct one?

This is normal: The apparent size of objects is smaller as the lens moves away from the eye in nearsighted corrections. This is one of the reasons that nearsighted people often see much better in contact lenses than they do with glasses.

Depends on taste : There are many light weight frames that are rimless, and sleek that have a low distraction look, while accentuating one's eyes. I'm particularly impressed with the brand, silhouette, which offers an extensive frame style inventory.
