A member asked:

Could use your help docs! my coworker has shingles. i've had chicken pox already but can i pass it onto my 9 month old baby?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Your past chickenpox protects you from acquiring the disease.Shingles is also much less contagions in general. The debris from the wounds is contagious, but it is not in her saliva or spread by airborne droplets. If you have any direct contact, simple washing with soap should decontaminate your hands and prevent your transporting the germ into your home.
