Kids grinding teeth: I've heard compelling arguments that's kids who grind their teeth are trying to equalize their ears due to pressure build up from bacteria a result of mucus due to food allergies. Basically food allergies are causing ear aches and kids grind to get ears to pop. If you child has bags under their eyes you should consider getting them checked for food sensitivities.

Not much to do!: At 8 months old your child is just beginning to get teeth. While possibly there are other issues such as sinus or ear infections (which your md can check out) it is probable the baby has a para-functional habit that mimics a sucking action or a response adaptation to teething pains. Carefully brush the teeth and wipe the inside of the mouth before sleep. Only water in bottle once mouth is clean!
