Not necessarily: Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is an antihistamine that may help with the runny nose. It does nothing for fever. If your 5-yer-old has had fever for a couple of days and no other symptoms, it may just be a viral cold. However, if fever lasts more than 4 days or other symptoms develop, you need to take him to a pediatrician of family practice doctor.
