See below: Absence seizures typically do not occur in adults. If it is a complex partial seizure, it happens with loss of awareness. There can be an aura warning you. Automatisms can occur during it such as lip smacking or finger tapping. See a neurologist for evaluation. Typically not: A classical absence seizure is a brief period of staring which passes abruptly and without any post-seizure confusion. Unless told by a bystander, the patient is typically unaware that a seizure has occurred.
