Not necessarily: It is good to recognize that cold sores are caused by herpes, which can also cause genital lesions. In general, different types of herpes cause each, but they can spread from one area to the other. You are doing two things that can cause spred. The most important prevention - don't touch/mess with it, and wash your hands! can take rx for herpes if recurring more. Some feel lysine helps too.

No but possible: Washing your hands is a great a day to prevent possibility of spread from mouth to genital. Without hand washing spread may occur, especially if the blister has ruptured, increasing the exposure.
