Low Risk Medication: Most ssri antidepressants are considered to be low-risk medications in pregnancy. There have been rare case reports of a serious lung condition called persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn in babies of mothers taking ssri's in late pregnancy. Untreated depression and anxiety also carry risks for the baby. These benefits and risks should be discussed with your treating physician.

Risk/Benefit Issue: Are u taking other meds ; do u have other health/psych prob’s? 2 common preg prob’s assoc’d with anti-depressants (ad’s) are infant hypertension (pphn) ; a discontinuation syndrome. Lexapro has an fda c preg rating (caution needed) while Paxil (paroxetine) is rated d (to be avoided). There is risk in dc’ing needed ad’s (e.g., less adherence to med regime ; ? suicidal ideation). Speak w/ provider!
