A member asked:

Is it bad to use q-tips to clean your ears? is it pushing ear wax further into your ears? would using a wet wash cloth be a better option?

Avoid: Q-tips should be avoided due to the possibility of damage to the inner ear. It can also worsen blockage of ear wax. It is recommended to put absolutely nothing that is smaller than your elbow into the ear. A warm wash cloth to remove ear wax from the outer component of the ear is advised.

Don't use qtips: Qtips are ok on the outside of the ear. When used in the canal it can compress the wax and make the problem worse. If wax buildup is a problem, peroxide mixed with warm water can be instilled in the canal. Let it bubble for 5 min. Then instill a mixture of half white vinegar half isopropyl alcohol so it'll dry the excess water and prevent an infection. You can do this once a week as prevention.
