Other than giving an: Aspirin, there no way to prevent a stroke. An outpatient work-up can be assessed as to what else can precipitate a stroke, such as a carotid study and echocardiogram of the heart.

Tia: If one is having a tia, give him 2 asprin as soon as possible , and have the person lie flat-this establishes the best circulation to the brain. When things have quieted down, persuade him to see a physician who will keep him on Aspirin and order the tests to check for blockages in his carotid arteries, look at a brain ct scan and check for abnormalities in his heart. Convince him.

Stroke: Begin with giving an Aspirin with a sip of water. Then call 911. If the patient continues to deteriorate he/she will not be able to say no to a visit to a primary stroke center. If the patient recovers then make an urgent appointment to a stroke neurologist to prevent a recurrence of the symptoms.

Potentially a risk: As you are likely aware, a TIA is a profound stroke risk, and needs to be addressed preventatively. Aspirin might help prevent if taken daily, but better approaches are available. Maybe it would be acceptable to have a routine visit with doctor and this discussed at that point. Also, if acceptable, try to schedule Concierge visit here onsite.
