No causation: Gallstones do not cause colon cancer. However, given the age when most patients have gallbladder problems, or the type of symptoms (abdominal discomfort) ascribed to gallstones, when it may be associated with other GI pathology, do show an association. A more causal relationship between gallstones and gallbladder cancer is known, but even here, the risk is low.

Not exactly: Having gallstones doesn't cause colon cancer. The stones can cause gallbladder cancer, but it's very rare. Having your gallbladder out does increase the risk of getting colon cancer, though. After the gallbladder is out, the bile from the liver has no place to be stored and can be irritating to the colon. The younger you are when your gallbladder is taken out, the higher the risk.
