A member asked:

Is it true that it is very rare for ovulation to occur before menarche?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It may or may not: Many girls have early cycles driven solely by their estrogen with breakdown menses at irregular times. They may not ovulate consistently for many months and don't have to for any cycle. However, they can also ovulate prior to their first cycle. My first med-student delivery was a 13 yo who had never had menses.Menses is not always a marker for ovulation, especially in young teens.
