A member asked:

My husband went in for a routine physical and his liver enzymes were alt was 200 test was redrawn 48 hours later and alt increased to 600. ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Serious. ?hepatitis?: Hepatitis is defined as inflammation of liver cells, as is indicated by elevation in serum transaminases (ast and/or alt). Hepatitis can be caused by a variety of issues (infectious, ischemic, metabolic, toxic, infiltrative, alcohol-related, drugs, etc.). It is impossible to say why his liver tests are elevated without more information--so, what tests have been done ; what has been ruled out?
