Hormonal imbalance: Normal periods should occur every 21 to 35 days ;#40;usually 28;#41; and should last no longer than seven days. Your heavy period and the change in frequency so suddenly suggest some problems that should be evaluated . Start keeping track of your bleeding days and see your gynecologist. You may have a hormonal imbalance, such as a thyroid problem.

Recommend evaluation: Normal cycle length can be anywhere from 21-35 days. If duration of flow is more than 7 days or if flow amount saturates greater than 1-2 pads or tampons per hour for several hours, then evaluation is warranted to determine cause.
