A member asked:

What is the colostomy operation in colorectal cancer? does the waste go outside of the body, come back in using the colostomy bag, eliminate by anus?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Colostomy: With a colostomy the feces enter the bag and do not reenter the body. If the rectum is preserved there may be some rectal discharge of feces as well. The colostomy nurse instructs the patient and family on how to apply and empty the colostomy bag.
