Exteriorized large i: A colostomy is the colon exteriorized to the abdominal wall for sttol evacuation into an external pouch. Bowel obstruction from a tumor at the time of surgery and very low rectal cancers are some of the indications for a colostomy. Most people with colon cancer do not have a colostomy.

Colostomy : A colostomy is the end of the colon brought through the abdominal wall and attached to the skin. A "bag" is placed over this to collect the stool. It is a possibility for rectal cancer, not typically needed for colon cancer. It is not really that common but is needed it the cancer involves the anal sphincters.
