A member asked:

How does colonoscopy feels? does having a colonoscopy means that your bowels will be fully emptied during this procedure? does it help constipation?

Colonoscopy: To have the colon scoped, it should be cleaned of stool, which is often done with a "bowel prep" the night before, that cleans out your bowel. Certainly if you are constipated, the bowel prep often will help dramatically and clean your bowels out. You will be given medications for the procedure and really will not feel it.

No feeling: Colonoscopies are usually performed with some form of conscious sedation versus general anesthesia, so the patient feels and remembers nothing. As part of performing a colonoscopy, the patient undergoes a bowel cleansing preparation that is far worse than the colonoscopy itself. The colon prep will relieve your constipation, at least for the moment.

Best Nap EVER!: I would try a pre-prep by using MiraLAX (polyethylene glycol) daily until the time for your prep, it will at least make your prep day easier. "stool softeners" don't really work. Miralax (polyethylene glycol) pulls water into the stool, so it doesn't cause cramping. The colonoscopy itself is quick and easy. Most important thing is to never get constipated, always prevent: drink plenty of water, eat veggies ; fiber.New med, Linzess is great.
