Can the d-dimer test be accurate enough to diagnose a pulmonary embolism?

Used for ruling out : The d-dimer test is most helpful in ruling out pulmonary embolism. If it is negative, the chance of having a pe is quite small. If it is positive, then a further confirmatory test is still necessary to make the diagnosis of pe.
