Can a normal x-raypick up a tumor in your spine or can it only show if a bone is broken?

Depends: Plain film x-rays should be able to 'pick up' tumors that are of bony origin or cause destruction of the bone( such as a signifigant metastasis to the vertebral body);but an MRI scan is the study of choice to appreciate soft tissue tumors of the spine or spinal cord as well as show the extent of bony and soft tissue involvement by primary and metastatic tumors.See your physician for more info.
