Surgery-related?: Surgery-related pain is expected, worst in first 1-3 days; afterwards it will slowly ease and improve over time. It's okay despite pain lingering as long as slowly and surely getting better day by day without undue swelling with redness in the incision. So, keep the record of the feature, degree, and progress of the symptoms with their detailed sequence of events for doctor's review and analysis..

Sounds normal: It is very common to have a variety of minor aches and pains that come and go after any operation, including open inguinal hernia repair. Usually however, patients can tell that "something is wrong" even though it may be difficult for then to define. Trust your instinct, and see your surgeon if you think something is "wrong".
