Peristaltic Activity: See: https://www.Healthtap.Com/#user_questions/1230889 ; http://en.Wikipedia.Org/wiki/peristalsis discoordination of small intestine peristalitic waves, regulated by brain-stem (subconscious) 24/7 + local control, if discoordinated (easy), will result in areas stretched (painful, colic) ; localized swelling. The small bowel is constantly shifting position; thus location can change fairly quickly.

Venous blockage?: Has a ct been done during. One of the swelling episodes or only between them? Is there any associated arm or leg swelling during the episodes? Do episodes relate to menses? May be some form of pelvic congestion syndrome or intermittent abdominal venous congestion. May consider an opinion from a vascular surgeon or gyn with experience in pelvic congestion.
