Eyelid edema: Following intense emotional situations with crying, runny nose, and lots of wiping eyelids and nose secretions, the eyelids often swell, eyes look red, and the ocular surface may be slightly irritated. Mucous is generated by the eye in response to the irritation. Sometimes contamination can be introduced into the eye with all the wiping. Not usually an infection results, but if worse, see eye doc.
