Some children grind: Their teeth and many think this has no specific cause. Research suggests that malocclusion of the teeth sets up the potential for grinding or bruxism. However some with well balanced bites tend to grind anyway. Bruxing is a multifaceted issue to be sure. Please consult w your pediatric dental specialist and discuss. In general, don't be too concerned.

Normal: 2 reasons: 1) your child grows in different places from one day to the next, so she's grinding in her occlusion, and 2) your child' skins is processing all the wonderful things she learned today. Knw that at 18 months your child should have had her 1st dental check-up 6 months ago. See a pediatric dental specialist for all the same reasons she sees a pediatric medical specialist.
