Sty location matters: Sty on the eyelid margin should be free of make up particles, as it is a clogged gland (pore) that needs to be drained either by warm compresses, or your eye doctor. Make sure that your mascara and other eye make up is not more than 3, at most 6 months old, as it's a great source for bacteria to grow. If the sty is away from your eyes, on your face, then the same applies, but is not as serious.
