Yes: Use sun block whenever out in the sun for both children and adults and especially young children. Reapply every 2 hours.

?let him?: If he is 17 months old, you let yourself put it on him. Always good to sun block when going out in the sun. Put it on him in sun exposed areas and avoid getting into the eyes. Best wishes.
