Hgb E/beta+thal: Hemoglobin e/beta+ thalassemia is a genetic condition where the effects are highly variable. Some children do relatively well, with rare transfusions; others are transfusion dependent. Splenomegaly occurs. Problems with iron overload occur in some of these patients. These patients need to be followed by a hematologist.
