Notice this: Cold sores are very common. Herpes in the eye is rare. Your immunity does not destroy dormant virus in a nerve, but contains it otherwise so it remains localized to the area of 1 nerve. So the cold sore comes back to the same place but only that place. Prescription Acyclovir or valacyclovir taken at the prodrome (initial tingling) will attenuate the symptoms. The pill is also used as a daily dose.
