Can you get herpes simplex in your (inner) ear?

Herpes Zoster Oticus: May be what you are referring to. This is actually caused by the varicella virus (chicken pox). See ramsey hunt syndrome. I am not aware of pathology of the inner ear proven to be caused by herpes simplex but it seems plausible.
