Tests: Low iron levels may cause no symptoms initially but as the levels drop further patients could develop more serious symptoms/complications. Examples include: fatigue, palpitations, lightheadedness, shortness of breath, pale skin , craving for ice . A doctor may check blood iron level, ferritin and total iron capacity to determine if you have iron deficiency or not.
