Lymph node: A lump behind the ear is rarely a bacterial infection and i doubt that an antibiotic is the treatment of choice. Usually a lump that is painful behind the ear is a lymph node and may represent a viral infection. If the lump is beneath the ear, it could be a benign growth of the parotid gland. I am not certain as to its relationship to swollen gums which is a dental problem.

Abscessed tooth: Lump is likely a lymph node that is responding to infection, swollen gums are likely the source of the infection that the lymph node is responding to. Antibiotics will not cure the problem but should reduce it after a few days. Seek help and an x-ray from a dentist. Either gum disease or an abscessed tooth are likely. Get in before the antibiotics are gone as the problem may return.
