Creatinine is: Produced by muscles and is cleared from the body by the kidneys. It is used as a marker of how well the kidneys are filtering the blood. If a person has more muscle mass, than their serum creatinine will be higher than if they had a lower body mass assuming stable renal function. So if you stop working out and lose muscle mass, your creatinine should go down.
