What do you enjoy?: The most important thing is to be consistent so i would go with whatever you like better- treadmill or elliptical workouts. Elliptical will be easier on the joints but both can give you a great aerobic workout.

Personal choice: Unless you have a specific injury or pain that requires special attention, you should pick whichever form of exercise that you enjoy and feel safe doing. Some elliptical machines work the arms, giving more of your bofy a work out.
