Septal hematoma: This can only be determined by physical examination. Be sure to have your nose evaluated by a board certified otolaryngologist.

Can be serious: A septal hematoma, especially if expanding, can cause problems including obstruction and possible tissue necrosis with subsequent fistula formation. In short, it is best to have your boyfriend examined by a surgeon who is qualified to evaluate and possibly drain the hematoma if present and if necessary
