A member asked:

Does metformin have any affects on the pancreas? if so, how serious can it be?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Metformin: For the most part, no, metformin does not affect the pancreas. If it makes you more Insulin sensitive, it will actually reduce the need for the pancreas to make insulin. Although some drugs are known to cause pancreatitis as a side effect, metformin is not normally considered a problem. Metformin should not be taken in someone with kidney problems.
