Varies: The most common cause of pain in the knees "near the knee cap" would be some form of patellafemoral disease, the most common of which is chondromalacia which is an abnormality if the cartilage on the under surface of the knee cap. Don't hesitate to be seen for a specific diagnosis and to discuss treatment options.
