Shouldn't be: From what i've been told by patients, the surgery to remove hardware is usually much quicker recovery than the initial surgery, and usually less painful. Keep in mind that everyone is different, and your reaction to surgery may be different than someone else's. Good luck!

A bit better: Generally hardware removal is quite a bit easier and less invasive than putting everything back together. From my experiences, patients do very well with this and seem to be quite relieved to have screws and plates removed.
