Was under sedation with propofol for ivf egg retrieval. was given antibiotic cefuroxime and novalgin for pain. started to cough. they said it was like an asthma attack. antibiotic allergic reaction?

Possible: For egg retrieval you might receive more than one drug, and you might develop cough for many reasons. Antibiotic allergy is possible as is also allergies to other drugs. Also light anesthesia can cause asthma like reactions. So the real reason is unclear.

Novalgin(Metamizole): Metamizole was banned in usa in 1977 due to risk of agranulocytosis and you are in california.It may be reaction to anesthesia or novalgin wherever you were given this drug (metamizole) it is unlikely a reaction to antibiotics. If it ever happens again check with your doctor.Do not take novalgin while you are pregnant.
