Several things: For children over one year of age honey can be used as a cough suppressant (unsafe for kids under one year old). Nasal saline relieves congestion and inflammation in the nasal passages. Vapor rub can be used on the chest and has been proven effective in reducing cough and cold symptoms. Ibuprofen works well for pain and fever. If high fever or prolonged symptoms then will need to see a doctor.
