Depends....: It depends on where the pain is. The most common non-injury cause could be patellar tendonitis which would be in the front of the knee below the kneecap. Ice the front and stretch your hamstrings. The most common injury cause could be from a twisting injury which could cause a meniscus tear. With this, the knee often hurts on the sides and is swollen. If you have swelling see a orthopedic surgeon.
