No HIV risk: One does not get HIV from kissing. Nor does one get HIV from saliva. There is no risk here. No test is needed.

If all U did is kiss: Then the chances are very very very slim. Essentially zero. But you could have passed the virus that caused your canker sore to him, especially if your canker sore was oral herpes. And you are right the only way you can tell if you have HIV is to have a blood test.
