Not necessarily: A cleaning alone may not be enough. Hard tell over the internet how bad your problem is. Follow your dentist's direction for care and follow up visits.

No.. but: Gum disease can only be controlled through daily cleaning of the teeth and gums. Having your teeth cleaned is part of that process and depending upon how severe the gum disease is will determine how it is treated.

Good 1st step: Treating active gum disease requires more than a cleaning. It requires rigorous maintenance on your part. Sometimes surgery is required. Please talk to your dentist about the complexity and severity of your gum disease, the treatment plan going forward, and if the services of a periodontist, a gum specialist, are warranted.
