SORE THROAT: If the md. Saw you already and started on rx you should be ok. Try to gargle with warm water or drink hot beverage like tea with lemon and honey or ginger to help the sore throat.

Pharyngitis: Most sore throats (pharyngitis) are caused by viruses, not bacteria. Strep throat is pharyngitis caused by streptococcus bacteria that responds well to penicillin. Otherwise, viruses just laugh at antibiotics and will take same amount of time to go away whether you take antibiotics or not. It's not uncommon for sore throat to get worse before getting better. Best to take meds as directed.
