Strep or not: Strep throat, which doctors recommend antibiotic treatment for, commonly causes fevers, enlarged tonsils with pus, enlarged neck glands, and the absence of cough/runny nose. Viral infections tend to present with runny nose and muscle pains. But nothing in medicine is an absolute. Even if there is just a 5% chance of this being Strep, treatment can save you a lifetime of medical complications.
