Treat headache first: If your Ibuprofen is not relieving your pain in your neck, you need to have this examined by your doctor closer. Heat or cold depends if it is acute and inflamed, in which cold works better. Or if it's chronic, and the tissue is cold, sometimes warm compresses helps. Often, neither may be warranted. So, call your doctor first, and see what s/he has to say, and go from there.

Neck pain an hour after waking. It's a tight feeling. Then the headache starts. Diclofenac and a heating pad helps with the pain. This is off and on throughout the day. What else can I do besides muscle relaxers and pain meds?
