A member asked:

I have what looks like bruising/discoloration behind my knee, but it's painless. it's a brown color, not purple/blue. what could be the cause?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Ecchymosis: This pigment could be due to breakdown products of red blood cells which stain the skin brownish yellow. Perhaps a tiny capillary or vein ruptured spontaneously and painlessly in the area. This pigment usually fades away gradually over a few weeks. Your physician can advise you further if necessary.
